Free Personalized Video Message For Your Child from Santa

Today I'm spending some time creating a personalized message from Santa for my kids. Last year, I discovered through other mommy bloggers the Portable North Pole. With the PNP, you can send your child a personalized video message from Santa. I assure you your kids would love it! My two kids, Simon and Sam, held their breath in anticipation last year as they await the elves' verdict if they've been good or bad. Santa's mere mention of their names seems to tickle them and there were lots of giggles and laughs all around. This year, Santa's message will make more sense to Sam, because he's really been doing well in school and had been working extra to finish all his assignments, plus he's now familiar with the geographic location and shape of the Philippines on the map.

It's very easy to do. It only took me a few minutes filling up the form. They will ask if the child has been good or bad, the child's special task for the year that he/she has accomplished, the gift Santa would be delivering to him/her and some other details, most of which would be incorporated in Santa's message. Personally, I like Santa's message video last year more than the one I have just created. I have no doubt though that my kids would love these video messages. Santa never fails to brighten up any kid's day and bring Christmas Cheer to everyone.

And with this, from my family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!

12/08/2012 - Photo A Day Challenge : GREEN & YUMMY

It's already the 10th here, and I'm posting the photo for December 8th. I suddenly got an audio file to work on that I needed to submit in 48 hours, so I stayed away from my blogs over the weekend. I wish though I could stay away from Facebook that long. :D I'm going to make a two-in-one post today.

December 8 prompt: Yummy  and December 9 prompt: Green

So my post today is YUMMY and GREEN:

What is yummy and green for me? Lunch of  rice and red salted eggs with ripe tomatoes, and okra dipped in soy sauce and calamansi.A classic Filipino meal.

Salted red eggs are duck eggs preserved by curing in brine solutions for a number of days. It's sold already boiled and can be partnered with red tomatoes for a guaranteed mouth watering meal. If you want to know more about salted eggs, or how to make your own salted eggs in brine solution, try this link HERE

12/07/2012 - Photo-A-Day Challenge: Flashback

Word Prompt of the Day: FLASHBACK

My mind flashes back to my first time in Tagaytay, the highest point of elevation in the province of Cavite here in the Philippines. It was in 1996 and we were on a company outing. It was also my first outing with hubby who was just then an officemate.

Now, sixteen years later, I was able to go back to the site where we had our first picnic. Where else but Picnic Grove. The Picnic Grove of today is not anymore the Picnic Grove I remember. I remember rolling hills and lots and lots of grass. I did not see that two weeks ago when we were there. It may be because of some stores and structures that had sprung up all over the place. Either that or I was looking in the wrong direction or might have been too preoccupied watching over my son as he dashed to the zipline area with his classmates. (Of course, I did not let him try the zipline.)

One thing did not change though, the magnificent view of Taal Volcano.

They also added a zip line for the adventurous soul. And this wonderful walkway from one zipline station to the other.

Now, these are two photos: one for December Photo A Day Challenge and for my very first entry to Shadow Shot Sunday.

12/06/2012 Photo-A-Day Challenge: One

We are reading a new book this week called "Wow, There's A Baby in Mommy's Tummy!" In our native language, "Aba, May Baby sa Loob ng T'yan ni Mommy!" It's a story of  a little girl who is going to be a big sister and who learned a lot of things by asking questions about her baby brother/sister. She is excited about the birth of her new sibling. The book talks about the baby's condition inside the mother's womb, how the baby lays there and how the baby eats. My two little ones still don't have any idea what an umbilical cord is. It took a little bit of explaining because one question lead to another and the answers lead to more questions. And then, I remembered I have Simon's birth photos.

This is Simon on Day ONE:

 Simon's umbilical cord being cut

The book that we are reading right now was Basti's (my eldest) book.We used to read it every night when I was pregnant with Sam. If you're looking for something that would help you prepare you child to the arrival of a new baby, this is one book you should look for. It helped Basti get used to the idea of a new baby in the family. It's in Tagalog and in English, by the way. Available at leading bookstores and at OMF Literature.

12/05/12 Photo-A-Day Challenge: Decorate

It's Christmas! Let's decorate!

In our house, we haven't decorated yet. Which is odd because it's just a few days before Christmas. Last year, we decorated as early as November. This year, I don't think we'll be putting up a Christmas tree. We have arranged the pieces of furniture around the house and there's no space for the big Christmas tree. But it doesn't mean that we're less cheery and it doesn't mean we won't be celebrating Christmas at all. We are still feeling the Christmas spirit. With the three children in the house, who wouldn't? What we'll do this year and I'm planning to do this this weekend is to have the whole family engaged in decorating the house sans the Christmas tree. Hubby wanted to have the old CDs turned into a Christmas decoration. I already checked Pinterest and already saw some great projects. We'll have Christmas decors, wreaths, Christmas lanterns or what here in the Philippines is called parol. All the trimming of last year's Christmas tree will be turned into something else. Wish us luck on this weekend project or ours!

My first DIY Snowman
I already started on this snowman. This is actually Basti's project. He helped me make the top hat and I bought the styro balls and the plastic eyes, picked up some twigs and presto, I have a snowman! Thanks to my glue gun, by the way. This snowman will be coming home to us after Basti's Christmas party and so I'm planning to make two smaller versions for the two younger kids. They got sad when we told them we have to send this snowman to Basti's school.

This is my Day 5th post for the Mama Making Changes Photo-A-Day Challenge Hop for December 2012! Just click on the badge at the sidebar to visit other participants or to join us. It never to late to join!

December Photo-A-Day Challenge: It's so cold!

Day 4 of December Photo-A-Day Challenge: It's So cold!

The past couple of days it's been cold in this part of the world. That's because of the typhoon, Pablo (international name: Bopha). Prior to the typhoon, it felt like summer here in Manila. But now, it's getting colder as December days go by.  It will be so cold in January or February, but not so much during December, unless there's a storm like this one.

Yesterday, I went out of the house to buy materials for my eldest's  snowman project. The sun is high in the sky but it's hidden by the clouds so dark. It felt like there was an eclipse.

My heart goes out to those who have been affected by the typhoon Pablo, in the southern part of the country. My prayers are with them. There was a time when there's a typhoon and there's a super typhoon. Now, because of the devastation each typhoon brings, it seems there's no difference anymore. Such is what the wrath of nature brings. We brought it upon ourselves.

Let me end this post before it becomes too sad a post. Let me greet each one of you a Happy Wednesday! I'm on the fourth day of the blog hop and I'm loving it. Hopefully, next year, I'll join a 365-day challenge.

December Photo-A-Day Challenge Hop Day 3: RED

Today's word prompt is:

RED

Gosh, I am so late for the December 3rd post. Sister and I went to the computer store yesterday where she bought her new computer to have it fixed. Imagine that! When sister came home and scanned her new computer Sunday, she found some virus and a few malwares. Quite scary. I accompanied her and stood there waiting while the technician reformat the hard drive and installed brand new softwares. And before we went home, I asked the technician to scan the newly reformatted drive for viruses. Oh gosh, it's full of viruses again and we haven't even left the store. Believe me, I saw RED and almost went into a fight with the store staff. We asked for a refund of the installation fee and told them to erase everything on the hard drive and we'll install everything ourselves, with our own installers. I can't get over the fact that their installer was infected. You'd definitely see RED in a situation like that, won't you?

Oh, the photo.
I actually have a photo of the store and all, but only on my cellphone and I can't find the USB cable. It's funny how things go missing when you need them.
So let me share with you this photo of my friend's wedding cake. The motif of the wedding is red and I never thought that red could be so beautiful until that wedding day.

the red and white cake. hmmm, someone can't wait to take a bite. i hope those are not my kid's prints

  2012 Event I won't forget

Cuyab Hot Spring Resort

We went swimming in one of the hot spring resorts in Laguna, here in the Philippines to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. My kids and I had so much fun! But it was not the fun that made it so memorable and unforgettable. It was the day that my eldest son suddenly collapsed before my very eyes. He was standing right beside me and we were getting ready to go home, and the next thing I knew, he was on the cemented floor. We had to bring him to the hospital. The doctor said it was over fatigue. I didn't sleep well for a couple of weeks because I was watching him while he sleeps. I was that traumatized by the experience.

That day brought me a realization, a realization that everything can be taken away from us in an instant. And that realization actually made me more appreciative of the people around me and of the people I love. I appreciate and treasure every moment I am with them. I live each day as it comes with my children. I begun to listen more and try to be with them more.  Everyday starts with I love you's and ends with a prayer of thanks for all the blessings that God is providing us everyday.

Hope you all visit the other participants! And if you're a blogger, we'd love to have you join us, just visit Mama Making Changes blog for details!

Being Overprotective Or Just Being Safe

Yesterday, my eldest and I went on a field trip in Tagaytay. One of the places we visited was Picnic Grove. And when in Picnic Grove, you can't help but go horseback riding. I wanted to go horseback riding with Basti but I can't because I have a slipped disk and I can't risk falling, because if I do I'll surely end up in the hospital and may end up paralyzed for life. And I can't risk that.

I let Basti go horseback riding while I watch on the side. Most of his classmates did and I didn't want him to feel left out. I watched on the side with a specific instruction to the guide to always be at his side throughout the ride. It was his first time and he was so happy. That moment was one of priceless moments of his life.

This experience was really great for him and for me, seeing him so happy and experiencing horseback riding with his classmates.

There was just one thing that's been gnawing at my mind ever since we left the horseback riding field. And I would really love to know your opinion on this.

One of the mommies who I had become friends with had taken charge of four other kids who didn't have their mommies with them. These kids are her daughter's playmates and Basti's as well, so I kind of feel responsible for them as well. Two of those kids went horseback riding and shared a horse. So there were two of them on one horse with the guide on their side. This mommy friend and I were both shocked that after awhile, like a few minutes after of teaching and guiding them, we found the two on their own without the guide on their side. We scanned the field for the guide and we found him sitting in the shade, not even looking where his "students" were.

While this may be part of the lesson, you know, letting them try it our for themselves, my friend and I panicked because we both know that accidents can happen anytime, especially for first-timers who'd never been on a horse before. What if one of them suddenly made a move that would send the horse galloping? So I called the attention of the guide and almost ran into an argument. They said that their horses are tame and they are "kind" and would not do anything that would hurt the kids. I said, yeah right, and what happens if something happens and you were not at their side. So the guide reluctantly accompanied the kids again, and my friend decided that they had enough and besides it was a very sunny and hot afternoon for the kids.

The funny thing is, Basti was also left alone by his guide and my heart skipped a beat. I immediately called the attention of our guide and he immediately understood. I really don't know if leaving them alone was part of the lesson but I see that some of the other guides did not leave their students' side.

What's bugging me about all this was that for one of the moms this setup was just okay. She was even cheering his son in a loud voice to make the horse go faster. I can't be that mom. I'm too scared that my son might fall when the horse suddenly run full speed. It's just a small horse as you can see but I have slipped disk remember and just the thought of him falling and having the same pain that I'm experiencing is a thought I could not entertain.  I told my friend that right there, you can see the difference between two moms and I wondered if I'd been overprotective.

So what do you think? Have I been overprotective or am I just being safe? Both for the other kids and my own? Would you be like me or would you be like the other mom? And also, would you let your 11, 10-year-old kid go on a zipline on his own? I really feel awful that I may not be letting my son have free reign of what he can and cannot do. And I felt awful explaining to him why I can't let him do things when he can see his classmates can.

Overall, he was happy with the way the field trip turned out but he wanted to go on his own next year. Maybe I should, huh?

Your thoughts?

The Pacman Bag

Remember Pacman, the video game that was very popular during the 80s? I loved Pacman. Apparently, my kids love Pacman, too. They found a flash Pacman game online and they play it from time to time. I didn't know they really love Pacman, until we saw this Pacman bag at SM the last day of October.

There was suddenly a lot of chatter and laughter when they saw this bag. They even looked at the prize and sat down on the floor to have a closer look.  Even now, while I'm writing this post, they're huddled in front of the computer and looking still at this Pacman bag.(i drafted this last night. now, they're at school)

I think I know what to buy them for Christmas.

Christmas Decors and A Lovely Christmas Tree

Christmas is here! I can feel it in the air! I can certainly see it all around me. Just take a look at these Christmas decors we spotted at our local bookstore, National Bookstore.  I love the colors of Fall, but I love the colors of Christmas even more. And one of my kids is loving these colors, too! He couldn't take his eyes and hands off all these lovely trinkets.

Me, I love this Christmas tree. I wish I could take it home with me. But for that price? Nah, I'll pass. That's around $540 given the current exchange rate. But isn't it gorgeous? Wow, I'm tickled pink by this lovely Christmas tree.

The Last Two Days of October

Photobucket

Our last two days of October were spent having fun. October 30th, Sam and Simon attended Sam's school Halloween party. They enjoyed the games, the costumes, the music, the food and the dancing. Especially the dancing. The kids danced Gangnam Style. They also had a fun number ala Plants versus Zombies. I was so proud of Simon for being able to keep up with the other kids of the school when it comes to dancing. He's so at home with his brother's schoolmates that I am already deciding he's going to the same school next year.

Kits used:

Last day of October, my sister took us to SM to go trick-or-treating, Although, at first they were excited and glad receiving candies from the different stores, they did not mind when we stopped after a few stores and decided to call it a day after an hour or so. We spent more time in the food court eating, playing their favorite bowling game, and bonding with cousins.

Overall, the last two days of October was a blast both for them and for me. After satisfying my sweet tooth with the hard candies I wouldn't let the kids eat, I said to myself "this is not so bad, after all." I honestly had misgivings about celebrating the Halloween, but I realized I could not deny the kids the fun it brings, especially Simon and Sam. It was such a joy seeing their happy faces. For them, this is just for fun, simple joys of kids. When they grow up, I'll let them decide on their own if they still want to celebrate or not. Anyway, my eldest, Basti, who's now 11, does not like Halloween parties anymore.

October was such a busy month for us. Now, I'm gearing up for the busiest time of the year, Christmas. And I'm sure, with Sam now at school and Simon keeping up with all of Sam's activities, this will be our biggest and busiest Christmas yet. I'm excited! Are you?

Yet Another Birthday Post and a Mother's Thoughts

And this is yet another birthday post and this time it's for Basti. He's now 11 years old! Yay!

rich Ultimate Chocolate by Red Ribbon, a serious celebrant and two birthday candles fanatics :)
How time flies and now, I'm really feeling old. In just a few years, my eldest would be in high school. Right now, he's practically a teenager. And I'm not sure I know how to cope with raising a teen, a male one for that matter. So, I'll just take this one day at a time, one step at a time, one issue at a time. Crossing my fingers that I won't mess up.

They say that this stage in a boy's life is really crucial, he's in a crossroads from being a kid to being a teen and on to being adult. The best I could do is show him that I'm always there for him every step of the way. Maybe, I'll loosen up a little bit on him and let  him be out there on his own a bit. Gosh, that is so hard. Times are different now, you see. The last time I let him out to be with friends, he got this:

Nasty eh? It's even nastier when it got infected. Ah, the cost of getting sick! We even thought we needed to have his arm cast for a broken bone. So glad the ortho doctor thought otherwise.

This 11 year old is growing so fast, not only physically but emotionally. I only wish that I'd be able to keep up, haha. I'm thankful each and every day that I am a mom to this wonderful young man. I'm celebrating my 11 years too as a mom. :) Yay for me!

Wow, Seven!

Wow, how time flies! My Sam just turned seven last week. We had a mini-party with his classmates at his school. Sam's such a happy birthday celebrant. He loved that he was the center of attention and basked in the warm greetings he was receiving that day. He beamed at everyone who greeted him as if to say, "Hey, I'm seven! I deserve all of this! Today is my day!" We did not have a grand party but he did enjoy the day and when asked, he said that he's happy.

I'm very proud of Sam. He has adjusted well in school and is now number one in his class. The teachers praise him for being attentive in class and being very active. He is a very diligent pupil. He never forgets to do his assignments and would often remind me that he has one.  I just wish that he'll keep this attitude till he grows up. I am thankful to be a mom to such a good kid.  :)

Halloween Masks and Costumes In Stores

Photobucket

It's once again a payday weekend and most parents, I'm pretty sure, are flocking to the super malls or to Divisoria or Baclaran to buy costumes for the Halloween. (for readers who haven't been to the Philippines, Divisoria and Baclaran are two places in Manila where people flock to buy good quality products at super affordable price, since most of the products are sold at wholesale price.)

I haven't gone yet to Baclaran to see what's in there. But I have gone to one of the most popular malls in our area last week. First day of October, these are what's on display.

Rows of pumpkin baskets. Don't forget to buy some for your little ones. So they could go treat-or-tricking in style.

And up above are what my eldest, Basti, would like to get as his costume. Gone were the days of Spiderman and Superman costumes. Those cute days are over. Now, all he really wants is to scare his classmates on Halloween for real.

I might buy him one of these. Sam will be using the same old Superman or Reaper costume or I may have to improvise something for both of the younger ones because I'm sure not gonna buy another one.

By the way, authorities have warned of harmful chemicals in certain Halloween masks and other items. So be very careful in choosing the right one, read the label. I'm really feeling lazy today, so I'll just gonna send you over to this news item from GMA Network to know more about this issue: {http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/276304/lifestyle/wellness/buying-halloween-stuff-check-the-label-for-harmful-chemicals}

Have a great weekend, everyone!

A Weekend Foodie Post on A Friday :)

Thank God it's Friday! It's my blogging day! I love Fridays, especially Fridays when I'm not loaded with work. Like today. Sad to say, I have no files to transcribe today. No work, no pay, right? But I'm sooooooo happy to say that I can finally make a post for Kids in Doodles.

Kids in Doodles theme is "How's your weekend?" So forgive me if it's Friday already and I'm talking about THE previous weekend. This and that happened -- ah, you know how it is.

Anyway, how was our last weekend? Well, it was a food-filled weekend. Remember Mama Tess which I talked about last week HERE. Well, her hubby celebrated his birthday Saturday and off we trooped to their house again. Our Tatay Poly (as we call him) is my father-in-law's younger brother. Since my father-in-law passed away years ago even before I met hubby, I had always considered Tatay Poly as my kids' lolo on hubby's side of the family. He celebrated his 59th birthday. I didn't know he's still that young.

We ate and ate and ate until our stomachs were full.

I love that smiling sun. Don't you? We had the ever-present pancit bihon, chocolate cake, biko (which hubby cooked), fried chicken, and fried lumpia and of course, refreshing softdrinks to match.

Of course, the kids -- Tatay Poly's grandson (not in the picture), my kids and their cousins, and  were the stars of the party. They took turns blowing the candle. In parties like this, a cake is not a cake without a candle on it. :)

Sunday morning, still full from Saturday's event, my sister fried something and left this on our kitchen table.

The kids and I thought they were chicken nuggets. It was only later when we took a bite did we realize that they were peeled baby potatoes, rolled in bread crumbs and fried. Really healthy and delicous! Even Sam ate a lot of these.

Then Sunday afternoon, hubby cooked his "specialty", spaghetti, which made the kids really, really happy.

There's a spaghetti merienda pack that you can buy at the store. It cost, I think, around only P45. We had to add a little bit more to that pack to feed a family of five, most of them boys.

So that was our weekend. We just lazed all day long at home Sunday, watching TV, movies, playing online and eating. Who said we need to go out of the house to have a good time?

How about you? How's your weekend?
